The Society is under the direction of an elected committee with separate working groups are set up from time to time to pursue matters of particular interest which arise, such as the current project to develop a website for the town. Occasional open meetings are arranged, with one each January incorporating the Society’s AGM. News and events are announced to members through a quarterly newsletter.

Each summer for over 40 years there is a Garden Party held in a variety of larger gardens of private homes in and around the town, usually attended by Hoddesdon’s MP, current Mayor and other local VIP guests.

One of the proudest achievements of the Society was the establishment of Lowewood  Museum by a team of volunteers who undertook the refurbishment of the premises and the installation of the initial collection. Subsequently a separate organisation: Friends of Lowewood was established to continue fundraising specifically for the Museum which is now run by Broxbourne Council. The society maintains contacts with the Friends as well as other local organisations which share similar aims and interests.

In 1995 The Hoddesdon Society Award was introduced to recognise examples of pleasing refurbishment or appropriate new design in the town. In 2006 the Award was made to Broxbourne Council for the design and installation of the new canopy which was added to the Hoddesdon Clock Tower.

The Society publishes a pamphlet of Rural Walks Around Hoddesdon which has recently been revised and updated and can be purchased at books @ Hoddesdon, along with the Hoddesdon Society Tea Towel which is also available from Heathers & Meadows, Louise Florists and Lowewood Museum.

Membership of the Society is open to anyone who lives or works in Hoddesdon and is interested in the future development of the town. A membership form can be obtained from the Secretary Peter Lardi by e mailing your address to him.
